Artist's Comments

I had the bright idea to make a bullet, so :iconshelbs2: proposed I make a 762 Cal
Here it is before I added textures.
Both the Bullet and the Shell are separate objects, since I'm hoping to use this later in an animation.

You may want to apply a smooth modifier.
:icondemonkabuto:
Modifier? What do you mean?
Lol yeah, this was just a an image of it while it wasn't rendered. I didn't mind the polys much

What 3d application are you using?
:icondemonkabuto:
I'm using Cinema 4d

Well gosh darn, I am not familiar with C4D. I am sure C4D has a smoothing function that will smooth out those hard lines that you have on your cartridge there. Certainly not a big deal, and something that takes a second to do.

I actually modeled and rendered pretty much all of the common rifle and pistol cartridges used today. Since I was not really worried about poly counts I filleted all the hard edges. I could show you a wireframe of my 7.62x51 if you are interested.
:icondemonkabuto:
Actually, I would be very interested in seeing some of your wireframe!
I checked out your site and saw your model of the common rounds as well, and noticed the one I made is on the end.
Oh, and yeah, C4D has a smoother called phong, but you add it to the object after you have the hard lines down. I wanted to save poly count so I can use this for some animation and physics practice, so I added phong after I had the poly's. Animation seems to be my forte more than modeling. lol But I try.
And you? What program is it that you use?
It really is a great honor you've taken an interest in me, words can't describe it. ~^^~

I have been using 3ds max for almost 7 years.

For my cartridge models, poly counts were not an issue. There are no hard lines, every hard line has been filleted and smoothed. Nothing really that fancy.

That's nice! But what do you mean by filleted? How do you do that? ~^^~

Its basically just rounding edges. Not sure how you would do that in C4D. As you see in the wireframes, the hard edges on the casing are rounded.
